Aging, Cognition, Hippocampal neurogenesis, Bone Morphogenic Protein signaling

My thesis work explores the role of bone morphogenic protein (BMP) signaling in hippocampal dependent cognition, with a particular focus on cognition during normal aging and Alzheimer's disease. I have located key signaling molecules to the primary cilia in the dentate gurus and am exploring mechanisms of ciliary trafficking and potential release in BMP signaling and how this may be leveraged to further our understanding of the regulation of  hippocampal neurogenesis and targeting age related cognitive decline.
