UK Cilia and Centrosome Network Summer Meeting 2025
Date: 13 June 2025 Time: 09:30 - 17:15
The 2025 UK Cilia and Centrosome Network Meeting, hosted this year by the Mitchison team in June at UCL in London, brought together >100 delegates mainly from the UK, with a strong contingent of international participants (Denmark, Germany, Poland, Italy, Canada, USA).
Marking a significant milestone and underlining the momentum and growth of this network, this was our first time meeting as a unified cilia and centrosome UK community, as reflected with new speakers and participants from the centrosome field.
The refreshed meeting format this year kicked off with a dynamic workshop on high-speed imaging and cilia modelling, followed by a panel discussion chaired by Kirsty Wan (University of Exeter). The main Network meeting featured a keynote presentation by Søren Christensen: "Ciliary TGFB/BMP Signalling: From the Heart to the Brain". Together with Lotte Pedersen, Søren brought an enthusiastic team from the University of Copenhagen to contribute to the vibrant discussions.
With a total of 17 talks and 14 posters, our 2025 meeting overall showcased a wide spectrum of cutting-edge cilia and centrosomal research spanning across basic science, methodological innovations, model organism studies, and developments in clinical and translational science.
We were also delighted to include a presentation on the revised strategy for the Ciliopathy Alliance by trustee and Alstrom Syndrome UK CEO Kerry Leeson-Beevers, joined by the Alliance's new treasurer, Temitope Oyefuga.
Thanks to our generous sponsors and all of this year's delegates for a great meeting, with our congratulations to all of the early career researcher prize winners for their outstanding contributions as follows:
Talk prizes: Sophia Fochler (U. Bern), Rudolfo Karl (U. Bonn), and Elisa Vitiello (U. Oxford).
Poster prizes: Oskar Kaaber Thomsen and Fabiola Campestre (U. Copenhagen), Molly Hair (Oxford Brookes University).
