Annual Meeting 2025 - Highlights
The 2025 UK Cilia and Centrosome Network Meeting, held on 13th June at UCL in London and hosted by the Mitchison team, was a resounding success. This year’s event brought together over 100 registered delegates, predominantly from the UK, alongside a strong contingent of international participants from Denmark, Germany, Poland, Italy, Canada, and the USA.
Marking a significant milestone, this was the first year the meeting formally united the cilia and centrosome communities. This expanded scope was reflected in the exciting addition of new speakers and participants from the centrosome field. Even researchers who couldn’t attend shared messages of support and expressed enthusiasm for future collaboration, underlining the momentum and growth of this network.

A new meeting format was introduced this year, beginning with a dynamic workshop on high-speed imaging and cilia modelling, followed by a panel discussion chaired by Kirsty Wan (University of Exeter). The main meeting featured a keynote presentation by Søren Christensen, who, together with Lotte Pedersen, brought an enthusiastic team from the University of Copenhagen to contribute to the vibrant discussions.
With 17 talks and 14 posters, the meeting showcased a wide spectrum of cutting-edge research — spanning basic science, methodological innovations, model organism studies, and developments in clinical and translational science.
We were also delighted to include a presentation on the revised strategy for the Ciliopathy Alliance by trustee and Alstrom Syndrome UK CEO Kerry Leeson-Beevers, joined by the Alliance’s new treasurer, Temitope Oyefuga.

Congratulations to all of our early career researcher prize winners for their outstanding contributions:
- Talk prizes: Sophia Fochler (University of Bern), Rudolfo Karl (University of Bonn), and Elisa Vitiello (University of Oxford)
- Poster prizes: Oskar Kaaber Thomsen and Fabiola Campestre (University of Copenhagen), Molly Hair (Oxford Brookes University)
A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event not only intellectually stimulating but also an enjoyable and valuable networking opportunity. The meeting sparked many new connections and collaborations, and we were particularly grateful to the numerous international colleagues who made the journey, adding a global dimension to the discussions. Special thanks go to our generous company sponsors, whose support made the event possible. We look forward to seeing what’s next for this thriving and collaborative community!
